Island Sexual Health Clinic reopens at Lansdowne
The Island Sexual Health Clinic has reopened in Richmond House on the Lansdowne campus. The clinic is open Friday from 10 am to 2 pm, and walk-in and appointments are both welcome. Call or text 250-888-6814 during open hours to book an appointment.
Fire ban cancels annual Traditional Pit Cook
The Traditional Pit Cook, an annual Indigenous tradition at Camosun that began in 2008 was cancelled last minute on Thursday, October 27 due to a local fire ban. Rain is usually plentiful during fall in Victoria, but this year has been abnormally dry. Climate change has impacted Indigenous food security in numerous ways, including this cancellation.
PISE goes through a rebrand
No longer known as the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence, PISE—located at Camosun’s Interurban campus—has rebranded to be the Pacific Institute for Sport Education. This change is because they want to realign their strategy to focus on growth and education. However, it will still be referred to as PISE.
Positive student-loan changes for Canadian students
The federal government recently changed the income threshold for the student loan Repayment Assistance Plan to be $40,000 per year instead of $25,000. This change means that, as of November 1, students won’t have to make school loan repayments until they make $40,000 annually. The federal government also recently announced they will be eliminating interest on student loans, which is a win for students and recent graduates. Look for our full story in our November 30 issue.
75 awards given out to Arts & Science students

Hospitality Management students serve lunch to people in need
On Thursday, November 10, Camosun College Hospitality Management students partnered with Our Place to serve lunch to 300 neighbours in need. They served lunch as part of a hands-on social responsibility lesson to give students an insight into real-world challenges. The school’s partnership with Our Place started in 2011; it was put on hold in 2020 because of COVID.
