Camosun students take home awards

Two Camosun College students recently won both college categories at the Association for Co-Operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning BC/Yukon (ACE-WIL) 2020 ACE-WIL Student of the Year Awards. Sport and Fitness Leadership student Tanya Fogarty won in the Work-Integrated Learning category, and Business Administration student Dylan Kaplan won the Co-op category. The awards recognize BC or Yukon students who show an outstanding level of achievement in their co-op or work-integrated education, have a strong academic record, volunteer experience, and have significantly contributing to promoting co-op education at their school and in their community. College to launch electric-vehicle maintenance program

Camosun will be launching its new electric-vehicle maintenance program at the Interurban campus. A pilot version of the program is set to begin in the fall, with a full version expected in 2022, according to the Camosun website. The program is being made possible through $440,000 from the CleanBC Go Electric Program and Trades Training BC; the money is being split between Camosun, the College of New Caledonia and Okanagan College. Camosun tech program gets national accreditation

Camosun’s Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology (Renewable Energy) program has received national accreditation. The program is the first at Camosun to be accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada. The accreditation gives Camosun students an opportunity for an expedited path to professional certification through provincial certifying bodies across Canada, including Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC.

Towing company announces new financial awards

New Brunswick-based Atlantic Towing recently announced two financial awards for Indigenous students in Camosun’s Bridge Watch Rating and Culinary programs. The recurring awards offer financial assistance with tuition and living expenses as well as opportunities for work placement and job opportunities with Atlantic after graduation.

Companies donate trucks to Camosun

Ford of Canada, Suburban Motors, and Glenoak Ford Sales recently donated two 2020 Ford F-150s to Camosun for use in the college’s Automotive Service Technician program. The vehicles were flood damaged and not suitable for retail sale; they were part of a nation-wide initiative where Ford donated 95 vehicles to educational institutions across Canada.

One Voice wins Camosun award

The One Voice Institute of Elemental Ethics and Education recently won the 2020 Camosun College Co-op and Internship Employer of the Year award. One Voice started working with the college last year and has hired six students from various programs.
