Sparking the light
The Belfry Theatre presents its 2018 SPARK Festival this month. The festival highlights new theatre in Canada while also aiming to show how theatre has changed over the years. Festival details can be found at belfry.bc.ca.

Thursday, March 8
Fundraising for Africa
Three Camosun students are holding a fundraising raffle on International Women’s Day as part of a service opportunity through the college. The funds raised through the purchase of tickets will go toward education for women in Africa. The raffle takes place from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at Patagonia Victoria, located at 616 Yates Street; see gofundme.com/podaeducateagirl for prize info. After the hiatus
Montreal indie-rock band The Dears are getting ready to release their new album, Times Infinity Volume Two. The band will be playing at Capital Ballroom this month as part of their tour promoting the album. Tickets are $16.50; for more information, visit atomiqueproductions.com.

Churchill plus Hudson
Australian folk, rock, and blues singer Kim Churchill plays at Capital Ballroom this month with Christian Hudson, a pop singer from Alberta. The two offer different styles of music, but not so different that they don’t go together. Tickets for the show are $19.50; see atomiqueproductions.com for more info.

Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17
Atomizing movement
Dance choreographer Wayne McGregor teams up with Dance Victoria to present Atomos, a performance involving dancers, 3D film, and more. McGregor is known for being the movement director for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Tickets range from $29 to $95; see dancevictoria.com for info.

Thursday, March 8 and Friday, March 9
Learning film
Join the Live Event and Audio Visual Services students in the Gibson Auditorium here at Camosun’s Lansdowne campus as they offer a speaker series about film, video, and theatre. On Thursday, March 8, Darcy Beck and Michael Lewis will discuss video production for film; the speaker for Friday, March 9 is to be confirmed. The events are free and open to everyone; each one runs from 11 am to 11:45 am and is in Young 216.

Saturday, March 17
Hunting for lucky charms
Join the Friends of Uplands Park on a walk through the park on St. Patrick’s Day to look for and identify local plants found in the park. Attendees will also be able to make a green chia craft. The event is free, but donations are appreciated. Email mlidkea@shaw.ca for info.
