Camosun College opens ultrasound clinic
On Thursday, January 26, Camosun College announced that it is opening a new ultrasound clinic at its Interurban campus. The clinic is called Campus Ultrasound and is the first of its kind in Canada to support on-site learning. Campus Ultrasound is a partnership with Island Health and will give Camosun Diagnostic Medical Sonography students experiential education. The clinic comes from $1.2M of funding from the provincial Ministry of Health; it will have two general ultrasound rooms and two echocardiogram rooms, providing space for four students to be trained at once. Camosun named in top research college list
Camosun College was recently named one of Canada’s top 50 research colleges. The college placed second for dollars spent per researcher and fifth in over 200 colleges for total completed research projects. The list of Canada’s top 50 research colleges is published annually by Research Infosource.
UVic to close building for housing, other uses
The University of Victoria recently announced that it will close the Ian Stewart Complex and use the 3.5 hectares of land to create a development for housing and other commercial uses. The Ian Stewart Complex currently serves as an ice rink and an outdoor swimming pool that closed in 2015. The university plans to keep the ice-rink portion of the complex open until 2026, allowing clubs and users time to relocate to different venues.
Lisa Helps new housing solution advisor
Former Victoria mayor Lisa Helps has been appointed as premier David Eby’s housing solution advisor. Helps will assist in designing and developing the BC Builds program, which focuses on building houses for middle-income earners.
