Long-running California-based punk band NOFX is known for their addition of comedy to their songs and taking on controversial topics, but with Double Album, a follow-up to 2021’s Single Album, the band brings in a large storytelling element, mixed with lessons drawn from the members’ life experiences, letting the listeners know and relate to the musicians without any other context.
The overall sound couldn’t be considered original in this genre, but isn’t lacking in the classic energetic tone and fast-paced guitar work accompanying the lyrics that one might expect from punk. And with NOFX’s recent announcement of calling it a day after 40 years, this album is a solid way to go out.
Double Album (no, it’s not actually a double album) is worth listening to if you’re a fan of punk, or if you appreciate clever lyrics and anecdotes.
