Election fraud: A story in our April 1, 1997 issue detailed how the Camosun College Student Society elections happening at the time were being postponed due to alleged election fraud. An anonymously written pamphlet that was circulated around the college accused the student society of “rigging the nomination period to give preference to their friends.” As a result, the chief election officer stepped down, and was replaced by a student who was interested in the role because “it’s not flipping burgers.”
Aerosmith… just Aerosmith: This issue’s editorial talked about emerging problems in the music business, largely blaming the band Aerosmith. It explained that “they stand for everything that is wrong in the music industry,” and that there is nothing to gain from listening to their brainless music. It describes them as a bunch of 40 year olds who have nothing better to do other than “french the microphone and grab their crotches.”
Bad bus vibes: Requesting advice, a student confided in Nexus that nobody will sit beside him on the bus, no matter how busy it is, and that he’s starting to get concerned. He says he’s pretty sure that he doesn’t have B.O., and he’s fairly attractive. The response? Maybe he gives off an unpleasant energy. In other words: his vibes are off.
