A courageous confession: Our November 25, 1996 issue featured a the cover story “Coming out of the closet about gay bashing,” which featured a brave Camosun student opening up about being assaulted. Times have changed and much of it has been for the better, but reading this sobering story is a reminder that there is always much improvement to be made.
Calling all chefs: This issue featured a quick recipe for an Alfredo Supreme, which served as a good nudge to me that it’s been a while since we’ve had a food or recipe column here in the paper. What do you say, Camosun students? Anyone up for starting up one for the January semester?
Late nights at Lansdowne: Our Speak Up question this issue was “What extra-curricular activities would you like to see, or be involved in, on campus?” Student Rits Yoshikwa said “A pub in the evening on a Friday, rather than a Friday afternoon when there are classes.” It’s a suggestion we’re still mulling over a quarter-century later. After all, how cool would it be if the Dunlop House Pub extended its hours to go late into the night?
