The Vancouver-based hip-hop duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids—made up of Darren Metz and Quinton Nyce—are originally from the small northern village of Kitamaat. The duo dropped their self-titled debut in 2017, quickly following it up with their second album, The Average Savage, that same year. Since then, they have released two more albums: TRAPLINE in 2019 and now Life After.

Life After explores the question of what comes after life, loss, and the pandemic, with powerful songs that dive into topics like mental illness, racism, and trauma.

It opens with “Grave Digger,” an upbeat jam that pumps the listener up for the rest of the album and carries on with songs of anger and frustration, and slower songs of sorrow. It ends with “After Dark,” a perfect and emotional conclusion that is both hopeful and sad.

Life After is a great listen for hip-hop lovers or newbies.
