It’s become much easier to research universities or colleges these days—everything is just a Google search away. Thanks to that, we can probably do enough research to apply at the institutions we see ourselves growing with.
There are a lot of students at Camosun from all around the world. Why do international students choose this college? I applied at this institution due to many reasons. When I finalized my plan to study in Canada, the first thing I searched on Google was “Warmest city in Canada” and I got “Victoria” in the search results.
I’m coming from a tropical country where the temperature is humid and it sometimes gets really hot, and practically not much cooler in winter. Therefore, I had to choose a place where I wouldn’t get any weather shock or something that my body couldn’t handle initially.
Then I searched for institutions on Vancouver Island, and a string of Google results with names like “University of Victoria,” “Camosun College,” and “North Island College” came up.
The main reason I chose Camosun was because of my desired program. I wanted to study Marketing and Camosun had options for full-time and a part-time post-graduate diploma in Marketing.
The location of the college is perfect, too—the commute from downtown Victoria to the Interurban campus, where I’m enrolled, is only around 30 minutes, and there are plenty of buses available.
Then I checked out various testimonials, YouTube videos, and vlogs. I read good reviews from alumni and current students, which made my decision quite firm.
Co-op, internship options, and the availability of a post-graduate work permit through Camosun made it a perfect choice for me as an international student. The beautiful campus and the part-time working options in the city made it even better.
Honestly, it just felt right when I applied here. After my research, I felt I could actually get a great deal of exposure from Camosun. The diversity here is the best part about it. In my first semester classes, I had classmates from Germany, China, India, and different places in South America.
Camosun also has a team of international advisors who help us whenever we have any trouble figuring out anything. Every international student has different reasons of their own to choose this institution; as for me, for now, I am glad I did. This is the next big step of my life and I had to be quite wise in deciding anything.
My experience with other international students and domestic students in a class where there was a lot of interaction made me realize that the decision to choose Camosun was the right one. I also get to volunteer with different clubs, interact with local students, and learn more about myself in this process.
And now, as you can see, I am able to express myself while writing for Nexus only because I chose Camosun.
