New memorial award for trades students
The Camosun College Foundation recently announced a new memorial award to assist carpentry, plumbing, and electrical students. The John Scheeren Building Excellence Memorial Award honours local builder John Scheeren and his 30 years of contributions to the local construction industry. Scheeren was a certified carpenter through Camosun who died in December of last year due to injuries on a construction site. Campbell Construction, Chard Development, and other industry organizations have contributed to the financial award, with the Camosun Foundation’s goal being to raise enough funds to provide a $1,000 award to three students per year in perpetuity.
CRD wants your opinion on trails
The Capital Regional District is thinking about widening and improving lighting on sections of the Lochside and Galloping Goose regional trails, and it wants public feedback on the process. The sections under consideration are between the Selkirk Trestle and Grange Road on the Galloping Goose, and between the Switch Bridge and McKenzie Avenue/Borden Street on the Lochside Trail.
