When asked about their goals with their work, every musician I have talked to has said something along the lines of this: “I want to build a lasting piece of work that leaves a indelible impression.” Tokyo Police Club vocalist/bassist Dave Monks has moved closer to this goal with his latest solo EP, On a Wave Goes Wild, which is a companion piece to his 2019 album On a Wave.

As any artist will inform you, producing a work of art that aims to leave any kind of impression is hard work. It takes months of critical thinking, writing, rewriting, and editing. But, after all is said and done, sometimes there is a breathtaking record that is well worth the struggle, which is the case with On a Wave Goes Wild.

With this EP, Monks manages to outdo his previous work with Tokyo Police Club and does what Mark Twain did with The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: leave a indelible impression.
