News reports circulated this weekend about $10,000 in gas-powered landscaping equipment being stolen from Camosun’s Lansdowne campus on Saturday. However, Camosun has confirmed to Nexus that the thefts actually happened on Labour Day Weekend.
The equipment was stolen from a storage building in the main parking lot off Foul Bay Road.
Camosun executive director of communications and marketing Rodney Porter says Crime Stoppers reported the wrong date this past weekend (Nexus is waiting to hear back from Saanich Police to confirm the exact date the theft occurred on). Porter says several hand-powered landscaping tools with a value of just under $10,000 were taken.
“This included things like chainsaws, trimmers, and blowers,” says Porter. (Camosun’s Facilities department has not responded to requests for comment.)
Porter says Camosun reported the theft to Saanich Police and they’re investigating.
The vehicle was a black Dodge Dually truck, as can be seen in the photos here.
Anyone who recognizes the truck can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, quoting file number SPD 19-21887.
