A few days ago we told you about some of the summer music festivals planned for the greater Victoria area, including the recent lineup announcement for Rock of the Woods in the Cowichan Valley. But a couple of infamous festivals happening in Washington State have also recently announced their lineups and they’re looking good. Real good.
Sasquatch, taking place in the wonderful Gorge Amphitheatre a couple of hours outside of Seattle, has been labelled a hipster fest by many (including us!), but a closer look at the lineup reveals an eclectic mix of hip-hop, electronic, indie rock, and even some heavier sounds.
Forget about the Mumford and Sons and Lumineers of the world for a minute (come on, it’s fun) and take notice of names like Torche, Surfer Blood, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, The XX, Primus, Rusko, Steve Aoki, Azealia Banks, Death Grips, Killer Mike, Japandroids, Red Fang, Reignwolf, and Akron/Family, all playing Sasquatch this year.
Sasquatch happens May 24-27 at the Gorge in George, WA. For more info, go here.
At the end of summer, during the Labour Day long weekend, Bumbershoot takes place in downtown Seattle in the Seattle Centre grounds. A long-running festival that started way back in 1973 (the year after our esteemed managing editor was born!), Bumbershoot is an eclectic mix of many genres of music as well as comedy, theatre and film.
This year’s music lineup was recently announced and features some predictable names like Death Cab for Cutie, fun., Mgmt, Tegan and Sara, and Kendrik Lamar, but the lineup also includes some excellent, genre-specific bands like Trampled by Turtles (bluegrass), Baroness (hard rock/metal), Superchunk (pop-punk/indie), and Bassnectar (electronic).
Bumbershoot happens August 31 to September 2 in downtown Seattle, WA. For more info, go here.
I heard Reignwolf will have an entirely new set to play, that NOBODY has heard!!
