Get Along
(Warner Bros.)
3/5
It’s a well-known fact that when you come out as gay woman you receive the complete Tegan and Sara discography and are signed into a legal obligation to love them for life. It’s just what happens.
That being said, I was stoked to get my hands on the most recent project of Tegan and Sara’s, Get Along, a live CD and accompanying DVD with three short videos. I was actually more so excited about the three short videos, as I’m not usually a fan of live-recorded music. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing live music, but that’s because that involves me being present at a show witnessing the performance.
But, onto the videos. The first one, States, is all about Tegan and Sara’s tour through the US. It’s about half an hour long, so really it’s just clips of them performing various songs in various venues, some interview clips, and also their signature, adorable stage banter.
Next up was India, which followed what felt like a vacation Tegan and Sara took in India. While they were there they also played some shows. It’s a pretty laid-back video in which nothing substantial really happens, but then I think of my legal obligation to love them forever, and I appreciate this video for supplying me the illusion of being part of Tegan and Sara’s India adventure.
The final video is a recording of a small, intimate show they did in Vancouver. It’s pretty cool, but I ask you to revisit the paragraph where I explain my feelings on recorded live music. If you like watching recorded live shows, then, awesome! But I get bored watching a recorded music show; it’s just really not the same as being there.
Not to sound like a Debbie Downer or anything, but I was a little disappointed by quality of content on this release. That pains me to say, as I am quite a fan, and also that whole legal-obligation-to-love-them-forever thing. Maybe I just let my hopes get a little too high and expected way more than what this release has to offer.
