Arts brief: Juno what I mean?

Juno Award nominee Drake.

March 11, 2010 - Arts

In early March the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced the nominees for the 2010 Juno Awards at a classy champagne jam-style affair at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto (pronounced “Ta-rah-na” by the local yokels). The Junos will not be getting dished out until the CTV broadcast on Sunday, April 18 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador (where the locals keep saying “g’wan b’y!”). “Each of today’s Juno Awards nominees has contributed greatly to the success of the Canadian recording industry,” enthused Melanie Berry, president and CEO of CARAS. Garnering the most nods was Vancouver’s Michael Bublé, with six nominations, followed closely by Billy Talent, Drake, and Johnny Reid, who all had multiple nods. Visit junoawards.ca to get the full list of nominees or, though not connected to the awards, you could always rent the 2007 film, Juno, which has a sweet soundtrack and a cool hamburger telephone.
